Having a gander with... @garryflume
Harry took us around his local fields up in Kirby Lonsdale to show us his camping set-up whilst we had a chin wag about donning Lacoste tracksuits, a shared love of the rave scene and nearly rolling his defender more times than he wishes to count, we finished the visit at his local brewery, wouldn’t have been right if we didn’t sign it off with a few pints.
Why are you called Garry and not Harry on Instagram?
‘Dunno, funny init’
Where did the love of nature come from?
‘I grew up on a farm, so I’ve always been in the outdoors - been doing this shit since I was 5. When I was a teenager we would go tarp and bib camping, as well as bushcrafting with a few mates. I’ve always found spots and made them my own, I don’t mind sharing and not gatekeeping - especially mates. I just don’t want to rock up to a spot and someone is already there, would ruin my weekend’
So just to clarify, it wasn’t your dirty work at the sycamore gap?
‘Haha no’
We jumped in his car where he started blasting music from his subwoofer in the boot. Let’s talk about your Defender then.
‘I’ve had so much fun in my defender over the years, the amount of times I’ve nearly rolled it whilst not clocking black ice. You can go and do things other people can’t do, it’s class. I do rag it around a bit too much though, my ego kicks in on the motorway when I see another Land Rover past me. Can’t let that happen.’
We’ve just seen you at Dekmantel, what kind of music do you listen to when you’re in the outdoors, hiking, around camp or on a night out?
‘Yeah, I saw you swanning about Dek in your Peveril Pants and thought I had to get a pair. I love Don on a night out, to be honest. I don’t like the bigger venues in Manchester, the smaller low-key stuff like the 24-hour do’s at the DBA are a better vibe. There is an odd correlation between the rave scene, camping and the clothes that come with it. Especially in Manchester, it’s very prevalent with waterproof clothing compared to anywhere else in the UK.’

What clothes are you into at the moment then?
‘Lacoste tracksuits, I’m bringing them back. Have you seen that guy who drives around Marseille on a crosser? -I fucking love a trackie. I love the old-school jungle rave look - TN caps, Moschino Shirts, Clima caps. Obviously into technical garments these days, just like the utilitarian vibe but I may get back into all that’
What have you styled yourself in today?
‘I decided to wear the Peveril jacket and pants in all Black today. I styled it with a Satisfy Running Trail cap and some Roa Katharine Trail shoes. I’m really into the wide baggy fit of the Peveril pants, sick detailing with the gusset pocket on the back - a really nice shape to it. The full black fit really sits nicely with that rave scene hybrid vibe we have been talking about. You’re going to have to peel this jacket off my shoulders when you leave’ - unsurprisingly, we didn’t get that jacket back.
