Born in Manchester, Gander was manifested by Founder - Calum Gregory in the need for a specific jacket, so he decided to design his own, now known as the Peveril Jacket. When wearing it around town, people kindly commented on it, and the idea of Gander was born. 

What has prevailed since was never planned or scripted, which, in a way, plays into Gander’s ethos. Doing this for the love of it and nothing more.

“My name is Calum, I am the Founder and Designer at Gander. 

I believe Gander occupies the area around contemporary menswear -  unclassifiable, creating garments that can be worn in different areas, for many types of occasions. I think Gander can be viewed by each customer in their own way, it doesn’t need to be defined by titles or shoehorned into a category.

I often look to garments of the past to inspire the design of the products we are developing, you will often identify old details in our products. I also like to look to Manchester and the surrounding area for inspiration. Whether that is a product name referencing my favourite Public Houses in the area or monuments.

I value the product very highly - it’s the most important thing. The craftsmanship and fabrics used in our garments are chosen carefully from China and the UK. 

I see Gander as a versatile brand, evidenced by the range of products in our collections. With that in mind, I felt a responsibility to deliver our interpretation of sustainability that isn’t necessarily touted that often; a quality over quantity ethos. I lean on intentional capsule releases, helping you to build a transitional wardrobe that can be worn all year round. 

Where new releases are concerned, some of them will act as software upgrades, building upon previous output that will see core styles reinvigorated using different fabrics.”
